Development and construction of a 3-axis CNC milling machine made of wood
As digitalisation progresses, the importance of NC-controlled machines in technology continues to grow. Knowledge and skills in the handling and use of such machine technology are therefore extremely valuable, as this expertise is a prerequisite for the realisation of demanding projects with small quantities and complex geometries. This is whyFLEXstarted the CNC@Home project with 16 students in the summer semester of 2021, with the aim of building a 3-axis CNC milling machine out of wood together over the course of the semester. Despite the circumstances of digital teaching and the corona lockdown, the students will work together as a team to acquire knowledge about the construction, functionality and production of such a milling machine.
In addition to the technical qualification, the transfer of knowledge contributes to interdisciplinary cooperation inFLEXprojects has always been of great importance. With this in mind, the individual strengths and interests of each participant are strategically and skilfully combined in the project. As a result of the project, the students will be able to build their own numerically controlled milling machine at home with the help of a "construction manual" developed in the project and with their newly acquired skills.
