FLEX is an interdisciplinary research group at Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK Leipzig) with around 20 members who are active in the field of applied construction research. Since 2014, architects, civil and industrial engineers, wood technicians and computer scientists have been working together to research new solutions at the interface between academic, mostly digitally based planning processes and manually organised execution processes. The aim is to develop system-innovative solutions that respect the processual nature of construction and open up the possibilities of digitally supported prefabrication processes for the necessarily individually defined construction process. Research focuses on digitally based design, planning, prefabrication and construction with wood, wood-based materials and natural building materials.
