Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alexander Stahr

Alexander Stahr (*1973) holds a doctorate in civil engineering and has been a professor of structural engineering at the Leipzig University of Applied Sciences (HTWK) since 2010. The core objective of his teaching, which focuses on the architecture degree programme, is to convey a feeling for the flow of forces in structures using the (pictorial) methods of graphical statics and the application of digital parametric tools.
Stahr is the initiator and idea generator of the FLEX.project, which aims to motivate students at the HTWK who are interested in construction and open to new ideas to work together in interdisciplinary and research-related projects and thus to establish an overarching, independent, open-topic top-level programme.
Based on his dissertation on the structural optimisation of variably curved steel-glass constructions, his research work focuses on the topic of resource-saving construction through the use of natural geometric curvature effects against the background of knowledge about the earth's energy and raw material reserves, based on a sense of responsibility for future generations that is deeply rooted in him.
Stahr is married, has six children, enjoys reading and jogging and lives in Leipzig.
