Leonardo d’Angelico, MSc

Leonardo d’Angelico (born 1996) comes from Freiberg am Neckar, a Swabian village in Baden-Württemberg. After completing his A-levels at the Oscar-Paret-Schule, he initially wanted to take a flexible approach to his academic development; so he chose the wide-ranging Bachelor’s programme in Economics at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart. During his studies, Leonardo quickly developed a particular interest in socio-technical systems that link economic processes, people and technology (hardware/software) – namely, business information systems.

An IT placement at Drees & Sommer further fuelled his enthusiasm for this interdisciplinary field, which is why he subsequently decided to pursue a Master’s degree in ‘Business Information Systems’ at the University of Leipzig. There, Leonardo specialised in the technical aspects; his Master’s thesis dealt with the 3D visualisation of dependencies in complex software systems. At the same time, he gained valuable experience in professional software development whilst working as a student trainee at IBM.

After completing his Master’s degree, he took up a full-time position at IBM as a Technical Specialist and worked on the integration of an enterprise AI solution in the public sector. 
Since 2026,Leonardo has been a research assistant at FLEX.team. Here, as part of his PhD research, he is working on the development of interoperable IT reference architectures for the digital process and value chains of small and medium-sized enterprises.
